PRESS: Google starts deleting banned resources from search results

MOSCOW, Feb 7 (PRIME) -- Google has started deleting websites that are banned in Russia from search results, business daily Vedomosti reported on Thursday, citing an employee of an unnamed Internet company.

A source at the communications service confirmed that Google has been really cleaning search from forbidden information during the recent several weeks. The company does not delete all links from the register of banned websites so far, but the bulk of them, some 70%.

A source close to Google said the U.S. company erases a part of links from the register. Websites are not deleted automatically, but the company studies grounds on which the resource was banned.

Google has not joined the register, but agreed with the communications service to be daily updated on the list on forbidden resources.

The communications watchdog fined Google 500,000 rubles in late 2018 for violation of the law obliging search engines to filter search results. The U.S. company paid the fine on January 1.

The register contains resources with information promoting extremism, suicide propaganda, and pornography, among others.
